Winter is (almost) over.

The opossums pile up as road kill and wood piles dwindle to the last stack, the white snow on the ground gives way to mud and the drainage ditches run full of water. Spring is almost here. It is mud season.

The evergreens turn green and the snow melts. Many people feel it is almost time to shoot the woodchucks and crows. The ground feels like squashy mud, which it is. It also means that you don’t have to wear a jacket.
